Breaking The Poverty Cycle

Danish jewellery designer helps disadvantaged children.

Julie Sandlau A/S has launched a Breaking The Poverty Cycle bracelet in collaboration with Choice Foundation. The bracelet shall help disadvantaged children in Hanoi, Vietnam with a new chance in life through education.

"I had no doubt from the start! I had to make a difference and help these poor children in the streets of Hanoi. They are innocent souls caught in the poverty cycle that they have very little possibility to escape from on their own. With the help from Choice Foundation and Blue Dragon Foundation I got the chance to help 100 children to break out from this poverty circle by giving them an opportunity for a brighter future through education. We have so much - they have so little"... Julie Sandlau, owner of Julie Sandlau A/S.

There is a great need to help disadvantaged children breaking the poverty cycle.
Many families can't afford paying for their children's school fees and send their children to the cities to make money instead. Many children end up as shoepolishers or beggars, others get trafficked far away from home by criminal gangs. The children end up surviving from day to day with the dangers that exist when living on the street.

Julie Sandlau and Choice Foundation belives that every child has the right to have a safe and playful childhood, being respected and loved. We believe that we can be a part of breaking this poverty cycle by ensuring education for disadvantaged children.

The Breaking The Poverty Cycle bracelet will be sold to stores for christmas sale, and the more bracelets being sold, the more children can be helped. Blue Dragon Foundation manages the education programme on a daily basis and has worked with disadvantaged children for more than 15 years.

The education programme is situated in the local area of Julie Sandlau A/S jewellery factory and is a part of the preventive programme that aims at keeping children safely with their families and away from the tough conditions of living on the streets in Hanoi city. Thereby Julie Sandlau is strengthening the development of the local area and gives children a possibility to move out of poverty through education.

Julie Sandlau: We will offer the young people Blue Dragon support an opportunity for admission and education at our jewellery academy with a subsequent employment at our factory. We here offer our employees training in English, HIV- and sanitation, as well as a membership to a union. All Julie Sandlau jewellery are produced in an optimized environment approved and supported by the Danish Foreign Ministry development programme, DANIDA".

Linda Jakobsen, Chairwoman of Choice Foundation: "It is very exiting collaboration we have with Julie Sandlau. The project is not only giving a helping hand to disadvantaged children in Vietnam. It also shows how companies can take a social responsibility and support the development in developing countries. This gives value to the local community, as well as to the company itself".

Breaking The Poverty Cycle jewellery costs 499 Danish krones and can be bought in the stores and at Julie Sandlau homepage from the 1st of November 2011.
